As reported by Consequence of Sound, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan recently appeared on an episode of the Howard Stern show, talking about many different topics including his ongoing feud with CNN personality Anderson Cooper and defending conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Corgan’s feud with Cooper initially began when Cooper called Corgan a has-been for appearing on the cover of a pet adoption magazine in 2014. Cooper insinuated that Corgan had become so desperate that he had to appear on the cover of a pet magazine to drum up attention for his music. The two then exchanged a war of words on social media, with Corgan referring to Cooper as a “globalist shill” On the Howard Stern Show Corgan refuted the original claim made by Cooper, stating that it was a charity magazine and that Cooper gave no context as to the magazine’s origin. Corgan stood by his words, reiterating that “He’s a globalist piece of shit, which is what I tweeted, and I stand by my tweet.”
Later on in the interview, Corgan discussed his relationship with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who has made a name for himself in pop culture for promoting outrageous and unproven claims about the clandestine operations of the federal government. Corgan defended Jones, stating that questioning the status quo is valid and that we don’t know the truth about a lot of occurrences in the world.
Corgan, now going by the name William Patrick Corgan, has been busy in recent months, collaborating with Rick Rubin on brand-new album, the recently released Ogilala. The record also features a visual accompaniment in the form of the silent film Pillbox, written and directed by Corgan. The big revelation from the recording process was that former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha played on two of the album’s songs, sparking speculation that he could return to the band.
Fans of the Smashing Pumpkins have been speculating for years of the possibility that Corgan could reunite the classic 90’s lineup of the band, however Corgan himself has been mum on that idea, and has given no indication that will happen.
