Fever Ray, the solo project of the Knife’s Karin Dreijer and that band you heard in Breaking Bad, has been under the radar since 2009, leaving fans empty-handed for quite some time. Now, just in time for Halloween, Fever Ray has been showing signs of life.
The band released two short, expectedly creepy video with some unfamiliar tunes. Up for is “Switch Seeks Same,” which features an animated character in a latex suit in what appears to be an online dating commercial. Bit-sounding electronics warp around as Dreijer’s voice drones over the track. As the video progresses, text, in the form of a rather awkward dating profile, interrupts the visuals. “Sadist, empathetic switch seeks same. For hours of sharing: ideas, skin warmth, breath, politics, dreams and body fluids.” The swipe-left profile continues saying “It’s been eight years and much has been learned and unlearned. Eight years of defeat and growth, eight years of caring and being cared for, eight years of loving and being loved. Let’s embrace our deepest fears together, let’s throw ourselves into whatever is out there waiting for us, let’s yes to all.”
The video ends with a Swedish phone number that actually works, and if you call, a creepy voice will ask if you’re lonely and tell you to leave a message at the beep.
Up next is “A New Friend,” featuring someone you probably wouldn’t want as a friend. Foreboding music plays as the camera winds down an abandoned hallway, ending with a woman sitting at a desk. The woman wears something resembling a latex wedding gown (with matching rope tied around her) as she talks on the phone and stares menacingly at the camera. In between she plays around with some NSFW medical equipment and raw meat of an unknown origin. The video ends with “Fever Ray. Plunge.” Could this be a new Fever Ray record? Signs look pretty good for the moment. Stay tuned as the month might get a little creepier with the help of Fever Ray. New videos can be found below.
