As reported by the BrooklynVegan, Matt Mondanile, who performs under the moniker Ducktails, has had multiple shows cancelled following accusations of what is being described as “unacceptable treatment of women.” The original member of Real Estate left that band recently and the explanation was given that he was spending more time with his solo project Ducktails. Last week it was revealed that the true reason for his departure from the band was due to series of accusations from multiple women claiming that Mondanile had sexually assaulted them.
Pitchfork spoke with the accusers and they offered extensive, specific details about the incidents. One, a college classmate, stated that the musician on multiple occasions entered her dorm room as she slept and groped her. This seems to be a disturbing behavioral trend from Mondaline, as several women came forward to describe incidents in which he would molest them as they slept.
The music site also reached out to Mondaline personally, calling him to get his side of the story. “There’s nothing I can tell you other than that I’ve done nothing wrong at all,” he said to Pitchfork. “There’s nothing to find out about me at all.” He maintained that the reason he left Real Estate was to focus more on Ducktails.
The band’s show in Manila was cancelled by the booking company Sleeping Boy Collective, and they were removed from the recent Phuzz Festival in North Carolina.
Ducktail’s show at the PhilaMOCA was also cancelled, the company put out this statement:
“After reading today’s detailed article in Spin, we have cancelled the Ducktails show scheduled at PhilaMOCA. Tickets will be refunded in full to all customers.
We have decided to donate the total gross ($) from this particular show to RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization. If you have been a victim of sexual assault, call 800.656.HOPE (4673) to be connected with a trained staff member from a sexual assault service provider in your area.”
