St. Vincent Debuts “Pills” and “Hang On Me” While Playing Full Album Live Over The Weekend in Los Angeles

St. Vincent flexed her way through a memorable set on the Outdoor Stage.

Anticipation has been steadily rising over the past few weeks as fans eagerly await the release of the new St. Vincent (Annie Clark) album Masseduction which will come out on Friday. Ever since the release of the first single from the record, the moody piano-driven “New York,” music fans have been anxiously waiting for the day the new album will drop.

This anticipation has seemingly reached its boiling point as the singer/guitarist performed the entire album live over the weekend at the Red Bull Music Academy Festival. Located on stage in the Paramount Studios backlot, the setting proved to be ideal for Clarke to showcase her prodigious musical skills. While St. Vincent has been dropping singles and music videos over the past couple of months, this show was the first glimpse audiences got of two big tracks from the new record, “Pills” and “Hang on Me” as reported by Spin.

This also marked the debut of her new live stage set up for her new tour, dubbed “Fear the Future.” This new stage design places St. Vincent as the centerpiece of the whole show, with no backing band or guest musicians, simply Clark playing and singing along to web of backing tracks. With a new outfit and a new paint job on her signature Musicman guitar, Clark proceeded to play a few songs from her previous albums before launching into Masseduction’s lead-off track “Hang on Me.” For a full recap of the entire concert check out mxdwn’s review here.

St. Vincent has established herself as one of the most diverse and wildly popular musicians out there today, gaining plenty of critical acclaim for her exceptional guitar playing skills in addition to her incredible vocal and compositional skills.

Produced by Jack Antonoff at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in Manhattan, Masseduction has been receiving high praise from many media outlets who have gotten a chance to listen to it in advance of its release date, with Rolling Stone calling it “Clark’s most intriguingly complex album to date.”
