Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ New Song “Holy Mountain” Has an Uncannily Similar Chorus to Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs”

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have just released the first single for their upcoming album, Who Built The Moon?.  The single, titled “Holy Mountain,” is upbeat and energetic, with brassy electric guitar riffs and spunky drum beats. Unlike Noel’s previous work on in the band Oasis, and on his recent solo album Chasing Yesterday, the song is uptempo and exciting. A lot of his older work has been mid-tempo, filled with more angst and melancholy. If the rest of the album is anything like the single, it will definitely stand out in Gallagher’s body of work.

The song stands out for another reason though. Some have noted that the chorus bears resemblance to Ricky Martin’s 2000 hit “She Bangs.” The repetition of notes over the line, “She fell, she fell,” is similar to the repetition of notes in Martin’s lyric, “She bang, she bang.” While they are similar, the rest of the songs seems to be unique. Even though the similarity is probably not enough to cause a lawsuit, it would be interesting to hear if Gallagher really did get inspiration from the song. The rest of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Bird’s album will be released November 24th.
