The synth pop trio, STRFKR, have just released a new single titled, “Amiee.” The song blend perfectly into their body of work with its driving rhythm, ethereal vocals, off kilter and unpredictable electronic harmonies and overall groovy aesthetic. The Portland based trio consisting of Shawn Glassford, Keil Corcoran, and frontman/songwriter Josh Hodges is well known for their ability to seamlessly combine funky 1980s vibes with their layered contemporary sound. While some criticize the group for being a, “poor man’s MGMT,” the group has proven they have lasting power as they embark on their 10th year together.
“Amiee,” will be a part of their upcoming 8th studio album titled, Vault Vol. 3. The album is the final addition to the three part Vault Series. The series is a collection of unreleased demos that never found their place in their released work. The songs range from unpolished, short excerpts to longer and more developed songs that could have more easily found their way onto a previous album. Some songs have been secretly saved from as far back as 2007, while others are more recent. Vault Vol. 1 was released on February 7th with 20 songs, and Vault Vol. 2 was released July 7th with 25 songs. Vault Vol 3 will be released November 22nd with 19 songs to complete the 64 song and roughly two hour long venture.
According to the band, the album will range from thrilling and silly to tender and melancholic. The band released the album to show fans the process their music goes through to get from raw seed of an idea to a fully formulated entity. Since many have argued that their albums are never as good as their live performances, this raw and unpolished album may actually fare better amongst audiences.
