On the night of October 1 Las Vegas, NV saw the worst mass shooting in the history of modern America. Bullets suddenly began to ring out from the 32 floor of Mandalay Bay, a popular hotel located on the Las Vegas strip, onto the festival goers of the Route 91 Harvest music festival. The gunman killed 58 people and injured over 500 before police believe the attacker pulled the trigger on himself in his hotel room.
Since the tragic shooting, people from all over the world have been sending their condolences to the city. Many artists in the music industry have also taken to their social media accounts to address the senseless violence and those who fell victim to the attack.
Jason Aldean who was on stage performing when the shooting began posted on his Instagram to say “Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still dont know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight.” The country singer ended with the hashtags #Heartbroken and #stopthehate.
Nicole Atkins also expressed how her heart was broken, and called for action on her Twitter page against gun violence which was accompanied by the hashtag #GunControlNow. British singer Robyn Hitchcock’s tweet was a quote by Bob Dylan saying, “How many deaths will it take till he knows that too many people have died?'” and cited the NRA to imply the need for gun control as well.
The Killers noted their “heavy hearts” and sent their love to the city, along with Asking Alexandria who also added an image from one of their previous shows.
Amanda Palmer posted a long heart-felt message to the victims of the shooting, and included kind words inspired by her new pet chicks.
Hayley Williams from Paramore expressed how she felt sick to her stomach, and also called for an initiative on gun control. Krist Novoselic also tweeted about the sickness he felt after hearing about the shooting.
Lana Del Rey tweeted “My thoughts are absolutely with everyone in Las Vegas today x.”
Chan Marshall better known as Cat Power confessed that she burst into tears after watching the horrific footage of that night, and also sent her love to Vegas along with Run The Jewels.
Peter Bjorn and John sided with many of their fellow artists on gun control.
Mark Lanegan kept it short and showed his disgust for what happened. He tweeted “More Vegas wtf. Sick person. Sick world.” Maggie Rogers wrote that she “had no appetite” and included her belief in the need gun control. Devin Townsend was left speechless and simply tweeted “What does one say…? #Las Vegas” with a broken heart emoji.
Tom Morello wrote “Thinking of everyone affected by the Las Vegas tragedy. So so horrible.” Alternative rock band Garbage took to Twitter to remind people about the definition of terrorism, regardless of the attacker’s skin color.
Corey Taylor Tweeted “Just woke up to the horrible news about Las Vegas. Checking on friends & family now. Shocked.” Questlove also woke up to the news and took to Twitter to look for more context.
Sia used her platform to warm those who were at the concert about what was happening. She said “Please, if you are in Las Vegas, take cover there are multiple shooters on the loose, twenty people are dead. Find cover and hide.”
Steve Aoki, world famous DJ and Las Vegas regular Tweeted a video of him telling those with friends in Vegas to make sure they’re alright and warn those who are in the city.
