Amanda Palmer released a new song today via the live streaming app Periscope which was posted directly to her Twitter page. The song “Small Hands, Small Heart” was written recorded over the course of three days in Boston last week. The video, which lasted for eleven minutes, features Palmer in her house talking about the specific details about the song before clicking on her Patreon page to charge her patrons for a new piece of content.

After launching the Patreon, the song began to play on a stereo system for a few seconds before technical difficulties forced Palmer to switch out devices. Eventually, the song started to play, another hard-edged political commentary from Palmer which relies on a driving bassline and some futuristic sounding synth samples. As usual, Palmer sounds great belting out the lyrics, which concern the lack of empathy displayed by president Trump. While the song was playing on the stream, Palmer danced around the room in perfect sync with the music.

“Small Hands, Small Heart” comes directly after another similar composition in the form of the piano-driven “Drowning in the Sound” written about the recent hurricane that rocked Houston and the entire South East. The advantage Palmer has with the Patreon platform is her ability to quickly record a song and then release it, without having to deal with a traditional record label to distribute it.

Palmer has been quite busy this year, reuniting the Dresden Dolls for select run of live dates in addition to releasing a brand new music video for the song “Grown Man Cry.” If that wasn’t enough Palmer also released a collaborative album with Pink Dots founder Edward Ka-Spel in the form of  I Can Spin A Rainbow which featured plenty of dark, experimental music. That record was accompanied by visually stunning music video for the single “The Clock at the Back of the Cage.”

All of the proceeds from the sale of “Small Hands, Small Heart” will go to help the people of Puerto Rico recover from the devastating hurricane that recently rocked the island.
