After President Trump’s denouncement of NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem at a rally in Alabama, Rapper J. Cole took to social media to express his dissatisfaction with the NFL and encouraged his fans to boycott the league.
J. Cole says, “God bless every player that finds courage to kneel today,” Cole wrote. “But the real power comes from you deciding to not watch.” J. Cole also went on to post about how now-former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick was denied a position from the NFL due to acts of protest by kneeling during the national anthem.
The rapper also said, “Same ones who speak out against Trump today, are the same ones that denied a qualified man a job because he took a stand against injustice… You and me have the power to deny them our attention ($$ to them) until they make a wrong situation right.”
J. Cole is not the first artist to show support for Kaepernick and other NFL players. Jay Z dedicated the performance of his song “The Story of O.J.” at the Meadows Music Festival, and Stevie Wonder took a knee at the Global Citizen Festival.
