Never Too Much Synth
Imagine starring in a film much like Drive where there are plenty scenes of late night driving on the highway and then set it to Annie Hart’s debut solo album Impossible Accomplice. You would have the perfect vibe for a very artistic indie film.
Annie Hart is no stranger to the music world since she has been in the pop-synth band, Au Revoir Simone, since 2003 and it is definitely clear that she knows what she is doing with her unique sound in her first attempt at being a solo artist.
The album starts off strong with the track “I Don’t Want Your Love.” The best part about this track is the catchy beat that is only enhanced by the soothing vocals of Annie Hart. It also helps that the lyrics are incredibly relatable for almost anyone and everyone who has ever had feelings for someone in his or her life. This is a track that could easily be put on repeat during a late night therapy session in a car.
The album only gets better when the second track starts. “Hard To Be Still” is one of the strongest tracks on the album and the name says it all. It is hard to sit still while listening to this track because it has such a fun and upbeat feel to it. This one, much like “I Don’t Want Your Love,” could be put on repeat because it is such a solid track.
There is something unique about Annie Hart’s voice and even though it possesses such uniqueness it fits perfectly with the simple beats that are chosen in each song. Along with this perfect matrimony, Annie Hart drops some of the best lyrics on the album in the track “On The Way Down,” with one of the strongest lines being “Don’t give me that, because I deserve more.” It is the wonderful mix of all of these strong points that make for a truly wonderful album.
The remaining tracks on the album offer a dreamy look into the creative mind of Annie Hart. The album is only eight tracks long, but Annie Hart accomplishes a lot in that short amount of time. However, it is one of those albums that, while listening, the listener might end up wishing there was more to come from it because it was such a solid album.
After listening to Impossible Accomplice in its entirety it is easy to say that Annie Hart did a good job at releasing a debut album that will stick out in the minds of listeners.
