Frank Zappa Is Resurrected for Back on the Road Hologram Shows in 2018

Ever since what appeared to be Tupac yelled “what the f*** is up Coachella” to the 2012 crowd, the issue of hologram performances has been an uneasy one, one that has drawn strong opinions on both sides of the fence. But, that hasn’t stopped several late artists to be resurrected to make labels more money and maybe give fans one last sight of their favorite artists.

Regardless of how you feel, Frank Zappa’s hologram is heading out on tour. Eyellusion, one of the biggest hologram production companies, announced that it is working closely with the Zappa Family Trust to produce a hologram performance of Frank Zappa, “Giving fans an opportunity to experience the prolific, eclectic and critically acclaimed music legend live in concert again. Production is set to start this year, with performances being announced sometime in 2018.

Co-trustee of the Zappa Family Trust Ahmet Zappa was excited to take the legendary museum back on the road in hologram form. “I’m thrilled that Frank Zappa will finally be going back out on tour playing his most well-known music as well as some rare and unheard material,” Ahmet said. “We can’t wait to bring his creative work back to stage with the musicians he loved to play with,” including Steve Vai, Adrian Belew and Ian Underwood, all who were supportive and committed to the effort. “When I spoke with them, they were excited at the prospect of performing alongside Frank once again and can’t wait to give fans an unforgettable experience.”

For Ahmet Zappa, this was one of the most exciting prospects. “How radical would it be to have Moon singing ‘Valley Girl’ on stage with Frank? Or to see Dweezil side by side with our father playing dueling guitar solos? That would be my greatest wish,” he said.

Besides just working with Eyellusion for his father’s hologram, Ahmet Zappa is joining the team leading their global business development. Frank’s son has a hand in several different pies, working with Walt Disney Pictures, Sony Pictures, Microsoft, and several others. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the Eyellusion family,” Ahmet said. “There is a ton of untapped potential in the industry and I look forward to working with the team to build on the company’s reputation as the premier holographic experience company.”

Whether you’re excited or disgruntled, stay tuned as more info and dates will be announced for Zappa’s hologram.
