Houston’s annual festival, Day for Night is just a couple of months away. Fans will be excited to know that a full lineup of the weekend festival has been released and it’s chalk full of both newbies and legends of the music world.
The third edition falls on the weekend of December 15th at the old downtown post office, now known as Post HTX, at 401 Franklin. The festival will see headliners of a powerhouse and diverse group of performers across four stages. The lineup which was released earlier this morning includes performances from Nine Inch Nails, Thom Yorke, Solange, Justice, St Vincent, Tyler, The Creator, and James Blake. Also playing this diverse lineup: The Jesus Lizard, Sky Ferreira, Jamie xx, Phantogram, Pussy Riot, Cardi B, Earl Sweatshirt, Laurie Anderson, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Of Montreal performing Hissing Fauna You Are The Destroyer, En Vogue (!), Daniel Lanois, Priests, Roni Size, Mount Kimbie, Tim Hecker, Jenny Hval, Kaytranada, Gas and more.
Trent Reznor recently revealed that David Lynch rejected a Nine Inch Nails song meant for the soundtrack for the revival of Twin Peaks because it wasn’t gritty enough. Eventually, Reznor and Nine Inch Nails performed “She’s Gone Away” from their 2016 EP ‘Not The Actual Events’ on the show though it wasn’t their first choice.
St Vincent is about to drop her fifth solo album, Masseduction Oct. 13. The new album is the first work in three years and she has been hyping it up since June when she announced an expansive tour via a video press release.
The festival is going to see a first performance from The Jesus Lizard in eight years. The American rock band was set to perform at the All Tomorrow’s Parties event Release the Bats in Melbourne, Australia back in October 2013. They unfortunately cancelled the show due to unforeseen circumstances.
Not only does the Houston festival have a crowd pleasing list of music performances, it also has a visual art component that will feature 18 art installations and performances including ones by Ryoki Ikeda, Matthew Schreiber, Radio Soulwax, and more. If art and music isn’t your cup of tea, Day for Night 2017 will also be augmented by a “FridaySummit” that will feature Chelsea Manning, Laurie Anderson, Nadya Tolokonnikova, and Lauren McCarthy. They will be speaking on “the intersection of art, technology, and activism.” After the talks, there will be a special performance from Solange’s Saint Heron called “Soul Cleansing.” This will be followed by a performances by Earl Sweatshirt and Kaytranda.
Day For Night tickets range from $250-$750 and are available to purchase now via the festival site. There are VIP tickets available again this year and promises fans rapid entry, premium viewing areas, VIP lounges, free drinks and snacks, an onsite concierge and swag bags.
With the recent hurricanes destruction that have been occurring in parts of US, a portion of Day for Night’s proceeds will go to the Greater Houston Community Foundation to help with Hurricane Harvey recovery.
