Depeche Mode, who performed at a exclusive free gig in L.A. along with the Hollywood Bowl, has released a new music video for “Cover Me”. This was directed by the Dutch photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn.
“Cover Me” was produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco, as a part of the 14th studio album Spirit. This album gained a lot of number one debuts in many countries in Europe, such as Germany, France and Italy. It was also debuted in the Top 10 in 15 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
Directed by their longtime collaborator, “Cover Me” shows Dave Gahan, dressed as a astronaut and walking through the city. The artist walks looks at the houses until he reaches the beaches where he sits on the bench. From there, the video transitions to the setting in space, where the artist looks out through the shuttle. The video has a filter in black and white with heavily contrasted light and shadow, the video shows a certain mood that the song tries to portrays. The video can be watched below.
According to the press release, Grahan said “A big surprise for me was how ‘Cover Me’ ended up being. I always heard this idea of the song being in two halves. The song is here and then you kind of get in the spaceship and go somewhere else.”
