Devin Townsend Will Film His Upcoming Ocean Machine 20th Anniversary Show for Future Release

Twenty years ago, Devin Townsend released Ocean Machine which became a blueprint for his style and career. He mentions everything from his younger years and morality, to his time on the road. Townsend wrote some of the lyrics when he was 17 years old. His career took off when he started touring with high-profile artists.  He was trying to get a label for Ocean Machine but he had some trouble getting a label to bite. With not much consistency in the style of the album, going from intense to quiet, no one wanted to work with him. After signing with Century Media, who was looking for heavier material, he released Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing. After he had more support, a friend told him he should set up his own record company and offered to licence the album through Sony Japan. That was his chance to go forward with his own album. To this day, it’s still one of his most cherished albums.

More recently, he announced that he will be recording his upcoming concert in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. That concert is set on September 22nd. It’s going to be his special 20th anniversary performance of his 1997 album Ocean Machine. After the concert the video will be used for a special blueray DVD release in the future. The Ancient Theatre paired with a symphony and choir give Townsend the perfect atmosphere for a stunning 20th anniversary celebration.

He posted to social media confirming these plans,
“Yes, we are filming Plovdiv for a bluray DVD release. My first attempt at surround mixing too…cheers @WavesAudioLtd.”
