LCD Soundsystem are finally back in our lives, and that’s a good thing. After killing it at several festivals this year, the band has new album coming tomorrow in the form of American Dream. While you still have a little bit to wait for the new LP, Jampes Murphy dropped off a little treat for the band.
The group has released a new song called “pulse (v.1),” and it is nearly 14 minutes of wonky synths and loops. Murphy put out a Facebook post describing the song to fans elaborating on the new track. Though the new song won’t be on the official record, Murphy says it still has some relation and that he “really really” likes it. “It’s not precisely part of the record, but it’s an addendum (or maybe a codicil?) meant to go after the last track, black screen.”
Murphy also spoke a bit more on why the track wouldn’t make it on the album, saying “one, pulse wouldn’t fit on the vinyl, so I didn’t include I there (I think we’ll put together a 12” with the other versions of pulse when there’s a moment, but that won’t be quick…tour and all).”
Murphy says the track began as a fun and weird synth collaboration between Gavin Russom and himself and on some “very weird machines,” and that the whole thing “would up developing into something else entirely.” The final product is a mix that the group did after the first session of the track, and has continued to grow on Murphy as he listened to it after the LP. “It’s super wonky, and I really didn’t want to square the human-ness off of it, but just let it be what it is. So you don’t have to tell me that it sounds super f***ed up. I know.”
The track is up available for stream and free downloading, so have at it and have it ready to play following American Dream, which drops tomorrow. Murphy also recently made news when he implied that his announcement of LCD Soundystem’s “last show” was an attempt to sell tickets. LCD Soundsystem dropped off new video back in April with the track “Tonite.”
