An Epic Journey through the Film and Video Game Compositions of Jimmy Urine
Jimmy Urine’s latest project, The Secret Cinematic Sounds of Jimmy Urine, is a compilation album of his film and video game musical compositions. Jimmy Urine has left a huge mark in the entertainment industry working on film and video game scores, serving as the frontman of electro-punk band Mindless Self Indulgence, and even as an actor in films, the latest of which being Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
The Secret Cinematic Sounds of Jimmy Urine is mostly an electronic album with only a few tracks containing vocals. The album features a chip-tune type of sound that exemplifies Jimmy Urine’s experience creating video game music compositions. The album also makes great use of thick synths blended with deeply melodic hip-hop and dance influenced drum patterns.
One track that truly shines is “Patty Hearst,” the seventh song on the album. The drum patterns on that song are more electronic dance based, and the song has a light, airy sound that gives it an ethereal ambience. The song also makes little use of the chip-tune essence that is heard more heavily on some of the other tracks on the album.
One song that features the more chip tune type of sound is the third track on the album, “Phase.” The song has a dark high energy tone to it and the electronic synths are a lot more glitchy. The song also makes use of the four by four beat patterns commonly utilized in electronic dance music. Jimmy Urine truly lets his ability to make video game music shine on this particular track.
Another big highlight from the album is the fifth track, “End Boss.” This track again sounds like something straight from a video game but is a little less glitchy than some of the other songs on the album. It makes greater use of melodic sounds and also utilizes the electronic dance music style of drum patterns.
Although the album is largely a chip-tune based album, songs such as “Patty Hearst,” “Not for me,” and “Salom” allow for a more versatile sound. They give the listeners a breather from the more high energy glitchy type of sounds on the rest of the album.
Overall this album is a lot of fun to listen to and Jimmy Urine really shows off his talent as a electronic music composer. Listeners will not be disappointed with the effort and talent that has gone into this album.
