After an anxious wait by fans, Beck has now released details on his 13th album Colors. Described by Rolling Stone as “euphoric blast of experimental pop,” the new LP will drop October 13 through Capital Records. Despite the fall release, Colors is already shaping up to be one of the warmest, upbeat pop albums to drop this year. If you aren’t sold on that claim quite yet, maybe a new single will change your mind.
Along with information on the album, Beck also shared a new single for Colors with “Dear Life.” The new lyric/music video features a dangerously infectious pop hit. A sunny and bright piano riff anchors the track and rides a simple pop beat, as Beck delivers the aggressively catchy chorus “Dear life, I’m holding on…how long must I wait until the thrill is gone?” The new track is equal parts Paul McCartney and Elliott Smith shot through a kaleidoscope. There is nothing overtly experimental, but the track is just pure pop joy. The lyric video, directed by Jimmy Turrell, Larua Gorun and Brook Linder, are brief vignettes, mixtures of real-life scenes overlapped with colorful animations and more trippy graphics.
Beck also gave the full tracklist for Colors, which you can see below along with the new hit. Colors will also include previous singles (released by DJ Caruso) “Dreams,” “Wow,” and “Up All Night.” Beck is also in the middle of a headlining summer tour which will rap up at the end of September, just a few weeks shy of the October 13 release.
