Rock superstar Chelsea Wolfe has released her new video for “16 Psyche”, the lead single from her upcoming album Hiss Spun, which is coming out on September 22nd. The album will be her seventh studio album since her debut in 2010. On top of the new video she also released “Vex” with Aaron Turner about a month ago. The video, directed by Zev Deans, features the singer looking directly into a circular shaped camera, while her and the band play the song. The video also features shots of her struggling in what appears to be a restraint chair, while other people attempt to hold her down. Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, makes quite the appearance in the video, he has also appeared in many similar videos of the era. The video premiered this morning via Noisey with an interview with the singer.
As far as the song itself goes Wolfe had this to say, “Apparently, the record was meant to be an “emotional purge in response to the disarray of the outside world,” said Wolfe in a press release. “I wanted to write some sort of escapist music; songs that were just about being in your body, and getting free.”
“You’re just bombarded with constant bad news,” continued Wolfe. “People getting fucked over and killed for shitty reasons or for no reason at all, and it seems like the world has been in tears for months, and then you remember it’s been fucked for a long time, it’s been fucked since the beginning. It’s overwhelming and I have to write about it.”
This could explain why she shot the video in a restraint chair.
Chelsea Wolfe and her band will be heading out on tour to support the new album.
