Julien Baker Announces New Album Turn Out The Lights for October 2017 Release and Unveils New Song “Appointments”

Indie folkster Julien Baker built herself quite a buzz when she released her stellar debut album, Sprained Ankle. Two years after her debut, Baker is gearing up to release her sophomore effort, Turn Out the Lights.

The Memphis songwriter’s new LP is due out October 27th (perfect fall music) through Matador Records. Baker also held exclusive production duties for the sophomore outing at her hometown Ardent Studios. Craig Silvey (The National Arcade Fire) assisted with mixing the boards.

A press release from Baker’s camp states that the new album “embraces the grays and complex truths of humanity and mental health,” and will keep Baker’s confessional lyrics that garnered her such a devoted following with her debut album.

Along with the new announcement, Baker also gives fans a first-glimpse into her new work with her first single, “Appointments.” The new ballad is soft, open and pretty vulnerable—all hallmarks of Baker’s work. Her tender yet powerful vocals float over twinkling guitars and soft piano chords as she lays out her fears and hesitant hope.

Earlier this year, Baker released two loosies with “Distant Solar System” and “Funeral Pyre.” Hear the new song below (best keep some tissues handy) and check out the track list below. Baker also announced a new tour to coincide with the album’s release, a full list of tour dates are below the jump.
