Astrid S. @The Independent (09/30)

The Norwegian artist will be coming to San Francisco this September as part of her tour and will be performing at the Independent. If you like catchy tunes, tropical pop, and R&B, this is a concert you are going to like and shouldn’t miss.

Astrid Smeplass or better known as Astrid S. is a Norwegian pop star who after competing on T.V. show Norway’s Pop Idol gained national fame and her success has been spreading worldwide. Astrid has always been inspired and touched by music, as a child, she learned how to play the piano. However, she felt classical music didn’t let her express herself fully, for which she started playing guitar and writing her own songs. After her 2013 stint on Pop Idol, in 2015 she signed with Universal and released her first single “2AM”. The song became a global hit as it went five-times platinum in Norway and got the artist an MTV EMA win for Best Norwegian Act, as a nomination for the Norwegian Grammys and a string of features on songs. Some of the features include “Running Out” – Matoma, “Waiting for Love” – Avicii, and “Air” – Shawn Mendes. Nonetheless, the artist has released other singles such as “Hyde.” which was produced by Lido, but her EP debut came until 2016 with her tropical pop single “Hurts So Good.” In 2017, her single “Breathe” became a huge hit and gained the artist a lot of recognition and along with her other singles and features, she’s been selling out her tours.

With many of her lyrics being inspired by John Mayer, her music does come from the soul, and people can connect to it in so many different ways that it actually makes you forget how to breathe. Astrid is just pure talent, creation, and dedication; her career as a singer started before she even reached the age of 18, and now she’s an international success, and ever since there’s been no stopping her, and I mean why there should be? She’s that good!
