Instagram and other forms of social media have been the stepping stone for artists to get word out on new work, connecting art to loyal fans. These fans look to the internet and hope for a photo or a tweet, something to reveal what’s to come for their favorite bands.
For Australian electronic act, The Avalanches have used this media form to push their follow-up to Wildflower, according to Pitchfork. A new record has been indicated and teased for awhile now and with this latest nudge of an Instagram post, that new record is on the horizon. It had been 16 years between the band’s debut record, Since I Left You to their sophomore album, Wildflower. Updates come and go and with Wildflower’s release last year, fans of The Avalanches are patiently waiting for new music from their favorite electronic act.
In the post, a picture of numerous vinyl records stack up on one another with a caption that reads, LP#3 – Day 1. Here, members of the Avalanches, Robbie Chater and Tony Diblasi, have confirmed they are indeed beginning to work on a new record. The band exclaimed in an interview done earlier this year that the new songs were “really light, it’s some of the best stuff we’ve done.” If the new record is anything like their previous work, both records were a commercial success, fans shouldn’t worry.
Not many loyal fans wait as long as those waiting for The Avalanches new record. 16 years is a long time to wait for new music. Hopefully the band will continue working in the studio and get their music out and available. In an interview with Pitchfork, the band has already have eight songs written.
Their sophomore album, Wildflower was the band’s first album in 16 years. It had been delayed since their release of Since I Left You back in 2000.
