Gothic garage rockers the Horrors are set to release their upcoming fifth record, entitled V, next month on September 22 via Wolftone/Caroline. But with fans of their particular brand of post-punk revivalism on the hook, the band provides us with something to nibble on with a new single “Something To Remember Me By.”
The band released the song with a tweet, saying that “For yr consideration we present, ‘Something to Remember Me By’ – a love song laced with sarcasm and regret, and the sssecond sssingle from V. In true Horrors self-destructive fashion we nearly left this off the record entirely.”
Thank whatever gothic lords you want, they didn’t leave it though. The expansive track (nearly hitting the seven-minute mark) is filled with a beautiful, feathery production that ensnares a whole album’s worth of earworm melodies. The song is an example of The Horrors at their best, giving great promise to the new album.
V, meanwhile, was produced by Paul Epworth (London Grammar, Florence and the Machine, Bloc Party, Adele), and also includes the prior single “Machine.” It’s already being billed, according to press notes via Consequence of Sound, as The Horrors’ “most expansive and progressive music” in their decade-long career. This new single certainly speaks to that.
