Mogwai Feature Silicone Molded Sculptures in New Video for “Party In The Dark”

Mogwai have released a new video for their track “Party In The Dark,” which is taken from the band’s upcoming record Every Country’s Sun, which is due to drop September 1 via Rock Action Records/Temporary Residence Inc.

The visually stunning promo, directed by Craig Murray, is heavily inspired by 80s sci-fi and horror flicks and its cliches. A press release describes the process of the creation of the film: “The practical effects film was created using silicone moulded sculptures, which were cast in wax and then melted. The video was filmed over 10 days a combination of stop motion, regular and time-lapse filming.”

Speaking in this month’s Prog about the new record, guitarist and vocalist Stuart Braithwaite said: “This process has been so elongated. When Before The Flood came up, it was literally like, ‘It needs to be done in three weeks. Do you want to do it?’ ‘Aye!’ It was a great cause, although it completely failed.

“The point of the film was to make sure Donald Trump didn’t get elected. Our record was originally going to come out in June, but it’s ended up in September.

“The whole process will have taken a whole year. It’s a much bigger gap than we’re used to. It feels old, even though hardly anyone has heard it.”

Previously they had shared the album’s first single, and opening track, “Coolverine,” as well as a cool black & white slow motion video for the song chronicling a telekinetic event.

Every Country’s Sun is the first Mogwai album without John Cummings, who left in late 2015. The lineup is now Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (keyboards, computer, guitar), Dominic Aitchison (bass), and Martin Bulloch (drums). A previous press release described the album as such: “This is music as a keep-out chrysalis, protective audio armor through exalting organs and portentous, dissonant guitar fuzz warping at the edges, bending the world inside-out into a reality in which you’d much rather live.”
