Woodstock Reunion Festival @ The Brooklyn Mirage 8/18 + 8/19

It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been 48 years since the legendary music festival Woodstock invaded upstate New York in 1969. Maybe there will never be another festival quite like it, but it’s certainly made its mark on major festivals since then. Peace and love and music–that’s what it was all about back then–and while the dynamic of live music has perhaps changed since those simpler days, it’s most certainly a time in music and in life that will always be remembered.

At this reunion festival the founder of Woodstock, Artie Kornfeld (that curly haired guy with the bright smile if you’ve seen the music doc before) will be there, as well as original acts, and it’s all taking place at The Brooklyn Mirage in East Williamsburg over the course of two days.

On Friday, August 18th, there will be a discussion where Artie Kornfeld will speak about the cultural significance of the festival, and following that there will be a screening of Woodstock on a high-def projection screen. And on Saturday, August 19th, that’s where the music comes in. Kornfeld and Wavy Gravy (the original MC of the festival) will kick off the night, followed by performances by Arlo Guthrie, Leslie West (performing Mountain), Billy Cox Band of Gypsies (the last members of Jimi Hendrix’s band), and Melanie (the first lady of Woodstock). This is a special event, full of love and memories, and as Artie Kornfeld explains, it’s also to bring “the spirit of Woodstock into the hearts of today’s Brooklyn audience” (just minus the rain and mud).
