As reported by TMZ, Country legend Glen Campbell, best known for his hit song, “Rhinestone Cowboy” has died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. According to a source close to his family, the singer passed away around 10 a.m. in a Nashville care center.
Campbell released over 60 studio albums over his 50-year career, and had a ton of hits such as, “Gentle on My Mind”, “Wichita Lineman”, “Galveston”, and of course “Rhinestone Cowboy”.
Glen made history in winning 4 Grammy awards in the country and pop categories in 1967. He also won the CMA’s Entertainer of the Year award in 1968.
Campbell was also an actor and TV host who starred in the variety show, “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour”. He also released a documentary in 2014 called, “I’ll Be Me”, which covered Glen’s final tour and his challenges with Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
On top of his impressive catalog, Campbell released what was planned as his final album Adios on June 9th of this year. Kim, his wife of 34 years, had this to say about his last album, “What you’re hearing when listening to Adios is the beautiful and loving culmination of friends and family doing their very best for the man who inspired, raised, and entertained them for decades”.
Glem Campbell was 81.
