Chicago’s Grant Park is the place to be this weekend as Lollapalooza begins its annual run all weekend long. The festival had a rough start though on Thursday with a few hiccups. Two of these hiccups ended up being a bummer for the music fans in attendance.
To start it off, fans of the former Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher had more than they bargained for when the singer and songwriter ended his supposedly one hour set early. According to Pitchfork, after performing only three songs and about 15-20 minutes into the singer’s set, Gallagher abruptly walked off stage cutting his set short. Those in the crowd waited, and waited to see if the singer would return but they were left disappointed.
Eventually, the rest of his hour long set was canceled. The music festival would later be cancelled entirely for the day cancelling the remaining sets as thunderstorms began to hover over the festival.
Gallagher was mid-way through his song, “Greedy Soul” when he walked off stage without saying anything. He left, leaving his band to continue to play the track without him. For a moment, everything seemed fine until it wasn’t. Gallagher belted away into the mic as if nothing was wrong until he simply walked away leaving those on stage with nothing to do but play.
Footage of the moment can be seen below.
The sudden departure of Gallagher and the awkwardness of the band playing without him caused the crowd to express their anger and disappointment immediately. There was reportedly people screaming, “Fuck you Liam” as they waited for his return. Scroll down to see the crowd’s reactions.
Attendees had to wait an hour afterwards to get a response from Gallagher who later tweeted an apology to his fans. He expressed that he was “sorry to the people who turned up for the gig in Chicago Lollapalooza had a difficult gig last night which fucked my voice.”
Gallagher’s first solo tour will continue with Osheaga Festival this weekend with the singer returning for more North American dates sometime in November. Gallagher is gearing up for his first solo album titled As You Were which will arrive in stores and digitally on October 6.
