Kidd Creole of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five Arrested for Stabbing Homeless Man to Death

When speaking about hip hop and its legacy, few names garner more respect than Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, one of the pioneering acts of hip hop in the 80’s and one of rap’s grandfathers. That’s why it’s unfortunate when news like today breaks. One of the Furious Five’s founding members, Kid Creole, was arrested earlier in New York in connection with the fatal stabbing of a homeless man.

Creole, who is now 57, is being held pending an arraignment on a murder charge, though sources are still attempting to find out if there Creole has an attorney who can further comment on the charges. The alleged stabbing happened this past Monday night in midtown Manhattan. After an argument involving homosexuality (according to law enforcement officials), 55-year old John Jolly was stabbed by Creole (real name Nathaniel Glover). According to TMZ, law enforcement officials used surveillance video to identify Creole as a suspect. Sources have yet to find out whether Jolly hit on Creole or called him a gay slur.

Police initially found Jolly and assumed he was passed out, but noticed the man was bleeding and quickly escorted him to the hospital, where he died. Jolly, who was homeless at the time of the stabbing, was a registered sex offender. Jolly had served time for sexually assaulting and attacking a woman, and had at least 16 prior arrests. At the time, he was staying at a shelter in the Bowery section of lower Manhattan.

Video of has surfaced showing Creole, gray hair pulled back into a pony tail, being escorted from a police precinct this past Wednesday.

Creole’s group was the first group inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, earning a spot in 2007 and several words of praise from rappers new and old, including Jay-Z, who inducted the group.
