Jack White is in the process of recording a third solo album. He made the announcement over social media on July 31, 2017. This third album has high expectations after the album Lazaretto was released in 2014. Followed by spontaneous new music here and there, like “Battle Cry” that was released in April 2017.
Last year White was working on a different style of production. He released a compilation of music called Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016. This compilation is a huge tribute to White’s career. Rather than being a mix of songs that never quite made the cut, it is an array of compositions that were created to fill the audience in on his journey in the music industry. That compilation is going to be followed by a third solo album. White has been recording much of the new album in Los Angeles and New York. He is trying something new. In an interview last March, White told the New Yorker his approach to the new music he is producing.
“I’m going to try to write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbor…and I want to write like Michael Jackson would write—instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room.”
The one room is nothing special either. It’s a tiny apartment in Nashville, Tennessee that gave him time and space to think through his music and create meaningful music. Read the full article on The New Yorker.
