Apple, who has been sued for the use of “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” in iPhone commercial, has now discontinued the iPod Nano and Shuffle models.
These two products have been removed from the Apple online store and soon the retail stores. According to Pitchfork, an Apple statement released stated “Today, we are simplifying our iPod lineup with two models of iPod touch now with double the capacity starting at just $199 and we are discontinuing the iPod shuffle and iPod nano.”
The shuffle was introduced to the public in 2005 and the nano was introduced a year later. Both were given constant attention and several redesigns before there was a shift in the popularity by the introduction of the iPhone. The $149 iPod Nano and the $49 iPod Shuffle have been downgraded for a few years and has been moved to become more of a accessory. Both have not been redesigned since a few years ago.
The company made steps to slowly take away the two models throughout this week. On Thursday, the storage capacities, the 16 GB and 64 GB were discontinued and the pricing for the 32 GB and 128 GB were lowered. Other models of the iPod are also no longer in retail such as the iPod classic, which was discontinued in 2014, where the company’s CEO Tim Cook had said that there was no source for the necessary parts.
