Angus Andrew of Liars Explains Why Aaron Hemphill Left the Band

On the brink of releasing TFCF, Angus Andrew posted on Reddit giving the public a chance to ask them whatever questions they have in mind. One question that remained unanswered until now: Why did Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross decide to leave the band?

Of course, given the opportunity, fans asked the dreaded question, “Is Liars now a solo project? Why did Julian and Aaron depart?” Adnrew’s response was anticipated by many, but the answer that Andrew gave was a lot less dramatic. He simply responded saying that Aaron decided to leave because he just didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. No hard feelings. The split was amicable and the two remain friends.

Julian left Liars for a different reason. His bad back made traveling and performing difficult.

Now back to the Reddit forum. Andrew had an overwhelming stack of questions that he was able to have fun with and be completely honest. Fans asked about specific songs, experimenting with new music and even his creative inspiration for songs.

One person asked:

“Am I supposed to listen to “This Dust Makes That Mud” all the way through??”

Andrew was in good spirits and responded,

“bwahahahaha yes! and then get so fed up with it you kick the stereo in the face!”

This gave some fans a chance to share their opinions and interact with Andrew.

“I love this track! I can actually listen to it all the way through and it’s not enough even then. I don’t notice how those 20-30 minutes pass by, which is very uncommon for me because I usually get tired of long tracks pretty quickly.”

When asked about the new album cover, the answer was intriguing. Something that you may discover from the music is that creatively, Andrew and Hemphill were creatively in sync. With Hemphill leaving the picture, the album art reveals the emotions of Andrew. Andrew said in response:

“I felt like I was married to Aaron creatively and now that he is gone I am alone in my wedding dress. The record is basically the them music for our creative relationship deteriorating.”

By the way, the forum also cleared up another mystery about the album cover.  It turns out after this shot was snapped, Andrew got to eat his cake too.
