Indie rock band Grizzly Bear have released another new single/video from their upcoming album Painted Ruins, the eerie and bizarre “Neighbors” as reported by Paste.com. The video follows a solitary man out in nature as he makes his way through winding vegetation before he discovers a woman fishing in a river.
The two greet each other, with both being clad in plant material (despite also wearing clothes underneath) before the scene abruptly changes to the two of them living together in a house. The trope of the man and the woman being clad in something continues as both end up becoming part of the furniture of the house. Eventually a child enters the room and the three of them become a quasi-family and take a picture. However, the three of them are wearing clothing that matches the wallpaper so the picture comes out blank, only showing the wall. It is an odd setting and plot for a music video and it complements the spacey psychedelic indie rock of the actual song.
Grizzly Bear are known for having odd and esoteric music videos and “Neighbors” continues this trend, with the music falling in line with their two previous singles, “Three Rings” and “Four Cypresses.”
Fans are undoubtedly waiting in eager anticipation for the band’s new album to drop on August 18th in addition to the extensive North American tour dates that they have announced for this fall.
