METZ @ Bowery Ballroom 10/5

When the Canadian-based trio METZ released their first record back in 2012, it didn’t take long to get people talking. Their rowdy, super-charged, grit-noise sound was fresh and exciting. And they took their time making it. It took years after their first performance to feel ready to record, proving that they take their music seriously, and they want their music to be good. They’ve not only proved themselves in the local Toronto scene, but METZ has proven to music lovers everywhere that they have what it takes to keep their place in the world of post-hardcore punk. They’ve also proven their dedication in the 300+ shows that they’ve played between their first and second record. Their second record is called II.

METZ is known for their live energy, playing with passion and a lot of guts. If the band breaks an instrument or someone starts bleeding, it’s whatever. They love the chaos. They’ll play on anyway, and the mess just adds to the awesomeness of the show. Done and done.

METZ (who is Alex Edkins, Chris Slorach, and Hayden Menzies) will release their third album called Strange Peace on Sub Pop Records (due out end of summer)–an album that has fans wondering, What will the band do next? Will they add even more instruments? Will they keep getting darker with their sound? And so we wait. But at least we have a sneak peak with their new single, “Cellophane.”
