Really Big Pinecone @ Alphaville 8/6

There’s nothing like playing a local show. (And yes, Really Big Pinecone did just play Northside Festival, opening up for Big Thief at Rough Trade). But now they’re headlining two shows in Brooklyn–the first at Alphaville on August 6th and the second at Baby’s All Right on August 10th. Is there anything better than seeing a local band at some of the best indie venues around? Nope. Not really.

Not only does Really Big Pinecone have one of the coolest band names ever, but their music has established them as being one of the hottest emerging acts around. Their two albums Really Really Big Pinecone (recorded at Silent Barn) and What I Said About the Pinecone (at Figure 8 Recording) both came out last year–two albums that are meant to be playful and layered and beautifully imperfect. For a quick dose, listen to songs “Big Plans” and “Chorus Girl.”

Their second album comes in at just fourteen minutes long, proving that it’s all about quality over quantity for this zesty trio. But not to worry–their setlist will definitely be longer than that, so there will plenty of time to jam to their indie, super-pinecone songs.
