Gordi Travels to the Salton Sea in Cinematic New Video for “On My Side”

Australian singer Gordi has release a new video for the second single from her upcoming album Reservoir, “On My Side.” The clip for the sweeping pop anthem is set in the Salton Sea, with scenes of the dramatic and unique landscape of the salty inland lake spliced with the singer submerging herself in water. The video is directed by Kris Moynes and features the singer and actor Lance Carnes. Gordi comes across Carnes laid out in the scorching desert landscape and she proceeds to pour water from a gas canister over his body in an effort to save him.

The song is produced by Tim Anderson, who is known for his work with alternative pop stars Solange and Banks. The song shares some qualities with perhaps the biggest and arguable the best alt-pop band of the last decade or so, Florence + the Machine. The impassioned vocals, crisp production and an overall sense of epic importance are all there, making “On My Side” and exciting teaser for Reservoir, which is set for release on August 25, 2017 through Jagjaguwar.

Talking about the song, Gordi said “I wrote ‘On My Side’ about being incapable of telling someone that I needed them, ‘sending my words silently’ through lyrics instead.” The video relates to this theme and the theme of the entire album, Reservoir, by showing the singer guiding someone through her most inner place, her “reservoir.”

The Australian singer is from a tiny town in the country’s rural farmland. She caught the ear of Bon Iver, who gave her the opportunity to perform on the Tonight Show alongside his band. Reservoir will be her debut album, which was produced with Anderson as well as Ali Chant (Perfume Genius/PJ Harvey) as well as Alex Somers (Sigur Ros).
