One of the newest events in an already-crowded Southern California festival circuit, Day N Night, has announced its 2017 lineup. This year the top billing goes to local legend Kendrick Lamar, Chicago’s rising star Chance the Rapper, Travis Scott, YG and many more. The festival is geared towards hip-hop heads, with the entire lineup featuring artists that operate in the realms of rap or R&B.
Kendrick Lamar is of course fresh off of the release of his latest LP, DAMN. The album has produced slew of new singles and videos, including “D.N.A.,” which featured a starring turn from Don Cheadle. More recently he released a video for “Element,” which much like the chorus lyrics of “If I gotta slap a pussy-ass nigga, I’ma make it look sexy / If I gotta go hard on a bitch, I’ma make it look sexy” featured the rapper slapping the hell out of someone. YG, another Los Angeles-area rapper may have first garnered notice for his blistering indictment of the then-GOP nominee with his cut “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump),” but he has since proven his staying power with Still Brazy in 2016. Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper is still riding the high that came from his critically acclaimed 2016 mixtape Coloring Book.
Other artists to keep an eye out for include SZA, who just dropped her TDE debut CTRL to tons of critical acclaim, Chicago rap star Vic Mensa, Odd Future associate Earl Sweatshirt and a whole host of unknown rappers trying to make a name for themselves.
Unsurprising for a modern hip-hop festival, trap music will be well-represented, with artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, 21 Savage and many others.
The festival offered its inaugural edition last year at Orange County’s Oak Canyon Park – performers included Flume, A$AP Rocky and more. Day N Night 2017 is scheduled for September 8-10 at Angel’s Stadium in Anaheim, CA. Limited early bird tickets go on sale July 7, while general onsale will be scheduled for July 8 at 10 AM PST.
