The Treasure Island Music Festival, after their 2016 event, will be skipping the music event in 2017 but is planning to create one in 2018. According to Brooklyn Vegan, this skip is taking place due to the festival’s forced relocation in 2016 due to construction and there still being trouble finding a new location.
SF Gate states that last year was spent mostly trying to find alternate spaces in Alameda, Oakland and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The co-founder has said that there are two locations that have been finalized but is not ready to be announced.
The co-founder of the festival, Jordan Kurland, has said that after a decade of producing a two day event, its a good time to pause and re-evaluate. Moving forward, the biggest obstacle is finding a new site. With this he stated, “A lot of factors went into our decision to take a year off, the main one being that finding a venue was taking a little longer than we wanted. But there was never a question of whether or not we would do another one.”
Kurland said “Last year was a real bummer. It was a bunch of things we had no real control over.” No matter the change in scenery, the experience is determined to stay the same. This includes “more than two dozen indie acts playing music on a pair of adjacent stages, with no overlapping sets and the laid-back atmosphere of a backyard barbecue”. There are also plans on bringing back the 60-foot Ferris wheel, art installations, midway attractions food trucks and disco.
