Angus & Julia Stone sound like a dream. Their music is feathery and folky and romantic (even if they are a brother/sister duo), and their whole aesthetic is very flower-child-like, sun-drenched in the country, full of peace and love. Their debut album A Book Like This was released in 2007, followed by Down the Way in 2010, and their latest record was self-titled and released in 2014.
Songs like “Paper Aeroplane” and “Big Jet Plane” and “Mango Tree” are prime highlights to their summery sound–the absolute go-to songs for a quick dose of their folky-nostalgic tunes. And when you listen to such songs it doesn’t seem possible that with such lightness happening between them that this Aussie pair would want to split for a while and take some time away from “Angus & Julia” and try to discover themselves as individual musicians. But they did have a break (which wasn’t exactly the most cordial separation, either), and they each released solo albums, as well, before their troubled brother/sister relationship found a way to get straight again (thanks to producer Rick Rubin) and they returned to music as the pair they initially started out as.
Their single “Heart Beats Slow” proved that all really was right again and that Angus & Julia Stone had to get back together. Now they’re back on a world tour, performing everywhere from Australia to America and everywhere in between as the gentle, flowery pair you know so well and have missed so much.
