M.I.A. Deletes Her Twitter Account

M.I.A. announced to her audience at Poland’s Open’er Festival last night (June 29) that she has deleted her @MIAUniverse Twitter account.

The rapper had previously tweeted that “one lucky fan” would be able to delete her Twitter account on stage. “Screen shoot what u can or it didn’t happen,” she tweeted out. That profile is still viewable, however her Twitter has disappeared from the social network site.

You’ll just have to come out and see me now,” she said in a set that included tracks such as ‘Bucky Done Gun’, ‘Bad Girls’ and ‘Paper Planes’.

M.I.A. had previously made her grievances against the social media site well known, writing about the “psychopathic” traits of the Trump administration, and “Since twitter provides a platform to people with disorder they should fund research on how we can help, prevent and cure people suffering.”

The disappearing act has been a long time coming, but it’s hard not to be disappointed. M.I.A.’s Twitter has been an interesting window into the mind of the artist, where she teased new music, as well as publicly asked Radiohead to play at Meltdown Festival, which she was curating. She had infamously tweeted out Lynn Hirschberg’s phone number, complained about the Grammys, argued with Anderson Cooper, and also wrote that AIM would be her final record.
