The Horrors Announce New Album V for September 2017 Release

Just earlier this month, the British cult post-punk revival band The Horrors brought their first new material since 2014’s Luminous with new track called “Machine.” Now, the gothic rockers have followed it up with the announcement of an upcoming 5th full-length record, fittingly titled V, for the roman numeral 5.

Set for release on September 22 via Wolftone/Caroline Records, the album was recorded in London with the acclaimed producer Paul Epworth, who had began his career bands such as Death From Above 1979 and Bloc Party, before trying his hand at poppier material with Adele and U2. Together, the band and Epworth explored a diverse approach to recording that has produced their “most expansive and progressive music” yet. The press release expands on the genres explored on the new album — explaining that songs draw on “dance, trance and ’80s pop genres”.

“It’s natural, if you do see yourself as an artist, to progress and not play it safe,” said keyboardist Tom Cowan. “Bowie pre-empted the modern condition of not being able to stay in one place for very long, and I get frustrated with bands who stay still. Because then it does become a career.”

Front man Faris Badwan described the band’s new direction. “…life isn’t much fun without risk. It’s the antithesis of being creative if you know what you’re going to be doing every time.”

The band have also announced a tour of the UK in autumn of 2017 to support the new album. Seems like an appropriate season for the band with the dark vibes, dark humor, and nocturnal ramblings to be taking the show back on the road. The band will be following the tour with some yet-to-be-announced North American dates, so make sure to keep your eyes out for that announcement.
