St. Vincent @ Kings Theatre 12/2

Going to school for music isn’t for everyone. So after going to Berklee for three years Annie Clark dropped out and went on to pursue music on her own terms. She was a member of Sufjan Stevens before venturing out to release a solo full-length record which was released in 2007 called Marry Me, which is a bold introduction to her beautifully complicated, bent sound. It’s indie music but it’s electronic and theatrical, strange and alternative, and as she blends together these bits and pieces she creates an entirely new sound that you haven’t really heard before. It’s a sound that also landed her a Grammy for Best Alternative Album.

For St.Vincent it’s all about being different, embracing the quirks of your personality and style (and yes, she has totally performed on stage wearing a toilet seat), and it also doesn’t hurt the funky equation that she absolutely shreds on her guitar in the most effortless way. Listen to songs like “Digital Witness” and “Now, Now” and you’ll really begin to understand her fascinating depths as a musician.

This year St.Vincent became ambassador for Record Store Day 2017, which she released a hilarious video for on Funny or Die (check out that video here), and although fans are still waiting for her highly anticipated new album to be released, she’s at least on a lengthy tour called “Fear the Future” so hopefully we’ll get to hear some new songs (as well as some old favorites, too). And in regards to her tour and upcoming album, St. Vincent has something very important to say about that. Watch the video below:
