Lorde released her highly anticipated second studio album Melodrama June 16th and the star has already seen her record at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Her previous album Pure Heroine saw massive success but only peaked at number three on the chart. Her second album focuses heavily on the feeling of loneliness and how one can find both the good and bad in a heartbreaking situation. The New Zealand native describes Melodrama as NOT a concept album but a loose narrative; a night out as a young adult. The first song that stood out to me was the solemn “Liability”; a ballad that reaches into the depths of loneliness. The single “Green Light” is an anthem for summer living and “Hard Feelings/Loveless” is an electro-pop hit.
The album has received critical acclaim and Lorde has been busy promoting the album. She has been seen performing at Coachella, the Billboard Music Awards and Saturday Night Live. The songstress is also obviously headlining Lollapalooza this August but if you couldn’t shell out $300 for the ticket, definitely don’t miss the chance to see her live at Allstate.
