California natives and pop-punk superstars, Blink-182, are making a splash when they come to the bay this summer! They will be performing at Papa Murphy’s Park in Sacramento on September 24th. They will be playing The City of Trees festival which is hosted by channel 94.7 and Bud Light. They will be performing alongside other hit artists like New Politics, DREAMCAR, Bishop Briggs, and The Greeting Committee.
The boys of Blink-182 originated in San Diego back in 1992. The trio, which previously included founding member Tom DeLonge, consists of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, and newcomer Mark Skiba. Blink-182 is credited as one of the most influential pop-punk bands to date and continues to put out hit after hit over the span of 20+ years. Most recently, the band released their latest studio album California in 2016, which is seemingly a love letter to their home state. That album is known for the songs Bored to Death, my personal favorite California, She’s Out of Her Mind, and Rabbit Hole. Previous to that the band has released six other studio albums, which includes their breakout album Enema State of Mind. Some of their biggest hits include All the Small Things, I Miss You, What’s My Age Again?, First Date, Adam’s Song, Dammit, The Rock Show, Feeling This, First Date, After Midnight, and Ghost on the Dance Floor. Blink’s style has evolved over the past 20 years, where their post-hiatus work is more mature and darker. Although, the men of blink-182 keep it original with their playful “toilet humor” songs like Happy Holidays, You Bastard, The Party Song, and Built this Pool. One thing that sets this band apart from your normal run of the mill pop-punk band, is that this band is one of the originals. They are the perennial pop-punk band, without them the sounds of Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, or Panic! At The Disco would be 100% different without their influence.
Fans of Good Charlotte, Green Day, or My Chemical Romance will be down for this show. Blink-182 came around the time when 90s boy bands were the standard and flipped the script to include, sincere, gritty, hilarious, and accessible. They brought punk into the mainstream and continue to be at the forefront of the modern punk scene. Honestly, I’ve seen Blink-182 countless times, so I promise this will be one of the best shows of your life. They are fun, charismatic, and downright badass. Grab a ticket, because this is about to the highlight of your summer.
