Mac Dre Day Hosted by Too $hort @ The Regency Ballroom 7/5

Mac Dre Day is upon us! The annual event to honor the life of Vallejo based rapper will be on july 5th at the Regency Ballroom. It will be hosted by fellow rappers Too $hort, Paul Wall, Ezale, and Mike Sherm. It is an event that takes place on the birthday of the rapper and has been hosted in a variety of Bay Area cities like San Jose and Modesto.

Bay area rapper and infamous rapper started out back in 1984. He released 14 albums collectively, where three albums were released after his death. The last release was in 2008 with the album Dre Day: July 5th 1970, which is to commemorate the rapper’s birthday. Mac Dre released an abundant of collaborative albums, four EPs and cassettes, five Best Of… albums, and much more. He was known for his songs Feelin’ Myself, Thizzle Dance, Get Stupid, Since ‘84, Not My Job, Boss Tycoon, Too Hard, She Neva Seen, Ice Cream, and Mafioso. My personal favorites are Feelin’ Myself and 4 Myself. The rapper has become a Bay Area icon, his image represented throughout the Bay, he is frequently mentioned in Bay Area rapper’s music like E-40. Outside of rapping, Mac Dre is known for his creation of the Thizz Nation, named after his hit song. Thizz Nation was known for their comedy videos and bobblehead dolls. He also was the founder of the record label Thizz Entertainment. Unfortunately, in 2004 Mac Dre was killed in Kansas City and the city he came from continues to honor and mourn him to this day.

Mac Dre day will be hosted by fellow rappers and throughout the Bay Area community. This coming together of the hip hop world and the Bay community is amazing and radical. To keep the image and the spirit alive of this icon is amazing. In 2016, filmmaker Zachary Butler made the documentary Legend of the Bay, which is about Mac Dre’s life and career. So, come together and celebrate the thizz master himself!
