New York indie rockers Yeah Yeah Yeahs have thrilled fans with the announcement of their first full live sets since they toured for their 2013 album Mosquito.
Pitchfork first reported that the group would be playing set at this year’s Sound on Sound Festival, their first since they officially went on hiatus in 2014. As the article notes, the band did run through covers of David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” and Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” during an after party at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, but this will be their first official public performance since their hiatus. The band will share the Sound on Sound stage with other notables such as Iggy Pop, The Shins and Grizzly Bear from November 10-12 at Sherwood Forest — a renaissance faire just outside of Austin, TX.
While the band has been on hiatus, its constituent members have certainly kept busy. Shortly before the group official announced they were taking a break, frontwoman Karen O released her debut solo album Crush Songs. O stayed in the spotlight appearing at the Vice Turns 20 Party before releasing videos for “Day Go By” and “Singalong.” She also teamed up with TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and David Sitek to release the song “Let It Grow” in 2015.
Guitarist Nick Zinner also remained active during the break, releasing the album A New Wave of Violence in 2016 with his hardcore supergroup Head Wound City, which also features members of The Blood Brothers and The Locust. Zinner also ditched his six-string in favor of a keyboard to play this year’s Moog Fest, sharing the bill with acts like R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Wolf Eyes and S U R V I V E’s Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein.
Though not as visible during the official hiatus, drummer Brian Chase did play at the Brooklyn Rock Lottery in 2014.
Fans are eagerly awaiting future announcements from the indie trio.
