Times are changing and so when one music festival bites the dust, another one pops up. So out of the ashes that was Fun Fun Fun Fest, Sound of Sound Festival was born. The core team that created, produced, and booked Austin’s legendary Fun Fest has reorganized themselves and have created the SOS Fest which was designed to “rethink what it means to be a modern music festival.”
The festival includes music acts from across the worlds of indie, punk, hip hop, metal, dance music, comedy, and live panel discussions / podcasts. The lineup for this year’s Sound on Sound Festival has just been released and the list of musicians and acts couldn’t be more exciting.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the indie rockers who gave us “Maps,” and “Heads Will Roll” have come out of their “hiatus” to headline the festival. Seeing the indie rock veterans on top of the bill will surely send goosebumps down loyal fans spines as this performance will mark their return after taking a four year break. Even though they had performed a couple covers at a Tribeca Film Festival party last year, Sound on Sound 2017 will be their first full show since they were touring behind their 2013 album Mosquito. The other music acts of SOS include Iggy Pop, Grizzly Bear, The Shins, Blood Orange, Electric Wizard, Pusha T, Kehlani, Vince Staples, just to name a few.
The festival will take place on the weekend of November 10-12 at Sherwood Forest near Austin. Like something you would see in Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest is a medieval-style village and an idyllic festival which is an unique setting for a music festival. Despite the medieval tone, the center of SOS will give ticket holders a weekend of memories. Details on tickets and everything else surrounding the festival can be found here.
For those who attended the festival last year will be happy to know that after complaints that the festivities at night were hard to navigate through, organizers have added, “significant signage and lighting” to the festival, camping and parking grounds.
Just like the previous year, the SOS Fest will benefit the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). Last year fest help bring $15,000 in donations to the nonprofit organization. For those in the dark, the organization helps provide affordable healthcare for low-income, uninsured working musicians in the greater Austin area.
Tickets for the festival are now on sale and are available here for $189 with taxes. Though VIP passes are available for $379 with taxes. The perks for the VIP passes include preferred viewing areas, expedited entry, exclusive food and drink offerings and happy hours as well as dedicated lounges and restroom facilities, and additional amenities will be announced when the event date gets closer.
