Another art exhibit event has opened up to tribute the late Leonard Cohen, called Leonard Cohen – Une brèche en toute chose/A Crack in Everything, which will run from November 9, 2017 to April 9, 2018.
This exhibit will feature Cohen’s variety of work including his writing, drawings and recordings and also the work, others created, that was inspired by him. This includes Kara Blake creating a new video installion that dives into Cohen’s thought process and Ari Folman’s “Depression Box”. This exhibit is all part of an official program for the Montreal’s 375th anniversary celebration, which is a non-profit organization with a mission to plan festivities for 2017.
As a part of the exhibit and concert, the National and Sufjan Steven recorded a cover of a Cohen song with guests that have not been announced. There are also several musicians that will be a part of the concert. Some of these artists are Julia Holter, Jarvis Cocker with Chilly Gonzales, Moby, Basia Bulat, and Little Scream.
According to Pitchfork, John Zeppetelli, the director of the museum, said in a statement, “When we came up with the idea for this exhibition, we went to seek the agreement of Leonard Cohen, who was thrilled with the project and the angle we were proposing. It was important for him that this exhibit would not be of a biographical nature. From the start, the project was thought as a contemporary artistic exploration of a life’s work, and in that sense, he was thrilled to be able to inspire other artists through his art. Given his recent death, our exhibition has taken on a new meaning. It has also become a tribute to this global star. We have a great responsibility to the public and the approach adopted by the artists will definitely be sensitive to this aspect, to reflect both our gratitude and our respect for this Montréal artist.”
