Leanne Macomber’s collaboration with producer Joel Ford, Young Ejecta has released a new single today, the surging “Build A Fire.” The song is built around the icy vocals of Macomber flowing over a tense drum machine loop along with some vintage ‘80s synthesizer sounds. The track evokes the vintage without ever sounding like a throwback thanks to the dark and tense atmosphere created by Ford’s production. This continues the duo’s musical template for combining dark electronics with Macomber’s high-pitched vocal delivery with personal and evocative lyrics.
The song will also be released on 12” vinyl on Ford’s Driftless Recordings. The pressing will include remixes of the track from Ellie Herring and Napolian. In addition, Young Ejecta’s 2015 release The Planet EP will be included on the B-side of the 12”, marking the first time it will get a vinyl release.
Young Ejecta have been known to court controversy for their risqué album covers in the past and that trend continues on this recording, with Macomber being burned at the stake clad only in the rope affixed to the stake. For Macomber Ejecta is a character that represents the volcanic activity of the earth and the constant state of change and rebirth of the planet. Thus, the character is represented in the nude to appear universal and timeless.
