The Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop have released a new single, the bouncing “Girls Girls.” The song, co-written with Tove Lo, relies on a galloping synthesizer line to complement the anthemic vocal stylings of Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo. “Girls Girls” continues Icona Pop’s fusion of modern day electronic with ‘80s new wave, resulting in a new and fresh sound that also hearkens back to the classics. Lyrically the track is an ode to female friendship and reflection on past experiences. The video features a collection of candid photos from women around the world enjoying each others friendship and also features a brief cameo from Tove Lo.
The song’s bouncing rhythmic attack and breezy vocals make it a perfect summer anthem and a perfect way for the duo to put themselves back in the spotlight after a period of inactivity. Their last release came back in October of 2016.
With a smattering of European festival performances lined up for the summer, Icona Pop are ready to continue to build on the momentum established over the course of the past few years since their breakthrough in 2012.
Hjelt and Jawo initially rose to fame with the hit single “I Love It” featuring Charli XCX which has since sold a whopping 8 million digital downloads and over 400 million streams since its release in 2012.
