Jeff Rosenstock just played the shit out of Northside Festival here in Brooklyn. And now he’s coming back (well, he does live here) to play at Silent Barn in Bushwick. If you’ve never seen JR play live, prepare for an experience–one that’s sweaty and punk-grimey, raw and liquor-drenched. He has fun on stage. He cares, but he doesn’t care–but that’s just how it goes when it comes to a true punk aesthetic. And he totally is the epitome of punk-rock.
Rosenstock played in another band called Bomb the Music Industry! before venturing off on his own and releasing a first album called I Look Like Shit in 2012. He released two more albums after that–one called We Cool? And WORRY., which was released just last year. And his record label, Quote Unquote, is donation-based, and the suggested donation amount is just five bucks. Again, he cares, but he doesn’t care–and that’s what makes him so damn cool. You want to be his friend. You want to go drink beers and talk shit. You want to crack jokes with him like he does with his fans on stage. And you want to talk to him about WORRY. and songs like “We Begged 2 Explode” and “To Be a Ghost” and how much cleaner and grown up they are than so many of his previous songs. He’ll probably be funny about it.
His latest single is called “Dramamine” which is the only song that Rosenstock was able to salvage after someone broke into his car and stole his notebook and rough recordings of the songs he planned to put on his new album. And so it stands alone. But at least he has songs like “Nausea” and “Amen” off his earlier albums to keep playing the shit out of in the meantime.
