Chelsea Wolfe Releases New Song “16 Psyche” and Announces New Album Hiss Spun for September 2017 Release

Gothic metal and folk singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe will be following up her phenomenal 2015 record Abyss with new album Hiss Spun, due September 22 via Sargent House.

Wolfe had revealed earlier this year that the album was recorded in Salem, Massachusetts by the legendary Kurt Ballou of Converge (whom Chelsea had worked together with multiple times) and features Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age and Aaron Turner of Old Man Gloom.

Wolfe has always been an experimental songwriter, fluctuating from doom metal influences all the way to Scandinavian folk, but her lead single for Hiss Spun, “16 Psyche,” is a clear, driving face-melting rocker (perhaps lending itself from the QOTSA influence?).

Apparently, the record was meant to be an “emotional purge in response to the disarray of the outside world,” said Wolfe in a press release. “I wanted to write some sort of escapist music; songs that were just about being in your body, and getting free.”

“You’re just bombarded with constant bad news,” continued Wolfe. “People getting fucked over and killed for shitty reasons or for no reason at all, and it seems like the world has been in tears for months, and then you remember it’s been fucked for a long time, it’s been fucked since the beginning. It’s overwhelming and I have to write about it.”

In support of the latest material, Wolfe has also announced an upcoming North American tour.
